The World's First Twerk-Powered Music Controller!
Zoo Labs, a music and technology incubator, was looking for a way to make their quarterly fundraiser an unforgettable experience. We delivered an audio visual music experience, powered by a MIDI interface that their could play with your butt.
Our goal was to invite people into the music process by making controlling music software, instruments as fun and easy as shaking your ass.
The installation also featured:
- fully controllable, responsive projection-mapped visuals using MadMapper
- an Arduino w/ custom firmware, lighting
- custom switch sensing circuit for optimal butt detection
- custom soft good fabrication
- a custom Ableton Live Set

Guests could trigger music clips in Ableton and drive images by dancing, twerking on these custom pink and teal buttons.
We built a custom Hiney Interface Device (HID) circuit that detected whenever people sat down, twerked etc.
The sensing circuit was wrapped in a custom soft goods case designed by Michael Runge. The MIDI controller also drove an interactive projection mapped experience.
